As body-focused competitions like Muscle Mania gain popularity, interest in body shape — especially lifted buttocks — is increasing. Following concerns about implant side effects, fat transplant hip augmentation has been attracting growing attention. We spoke with Dr. Kim Hyun-soo of ReYeonK Clinic Apgujeong in Gangnam about fat transplant hip augmentation.
Q. Please explain fat transplant hip augmentation in detail.
The procedure involves liposuction of love handles, outer thighs (saddlebags), inner thighs, and the area below the buttocks to create a slimmer waist and lower body, followed by fat transplantation to the buttocks to add volume and achieve a beautiful backline. Including thigh liposuction produces even slimmer lower body results.
Q. What are the advantages and disadvantages?
The advantages include addressing love handles and thigh fat simultaneously while creating a natural shape and feel with a voluminous backline. The disadvantage is that limited fat availability may make it difficult to achieve the desired size, and excessive fat transplantation can cause calcification.
Q. What precautions should be taken?
Results can vary depending on the survival rate of transplanted fat. To maximize survival, fresh (non-frozen) fat, stem cells, and PRP are used. Choosing a medical team with extensive hip augmentation experience and thorough consultation is key to achieving high satisfaction.
