Chin Plastic Surgery on the Rise in the United States

The number of people undergoing chin surgery in the United States is on the rise.
According to NPR (National Public Radio), the fastest-growing cosmetic surgery in the US since 2011 has been chin surgery — or mentoplasty.
Mentoplasty involves implanting and securing an artificial bone just above the lower jaw to refine the chin line. It is particularly popular among women whose underdeveloped lower jaw makes their mouth appear to protrude.
In Korea, facial liposuction procedures continue to increase steadily. Since it does not involve touching bone or inserting implants, it carries less risk than facial contouring or chin surgery, and is popular among modern women seeking a smaller, more defined face.
Dr. Kim Hyun-soo of ReYeonK explained: "Since 2010, the aesthetic market trend has been shifting toward demand for overall facial contour and shape. While preferences vary by country, in both the US and Korea, procedures that slim the face and chin area are increasing."
